Welcome to Calvary Baptist Church in Richards Bay. We are a local church committed to the faithful preaching of Scripture, the saving gospel of Jesus Christ, reverent worship, earnest prayer, and the discipleship of believers in the life of the church.

What does it mean to be a Christian?
The Christian life begins with Christ.
A Christian is not merely someone who attends church, tries to be moral, or knows religious words. A Christian is a sinner who has been reconciled to God through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.”1 Timothy 1:15

God is holy and good.
God made us for His glory. He is righteous, pure, and worthy of our love, worship, and obedience.

We have sinned against Him.
Sin is not only broken behaviour; it is rebellion against the living God. Because of sin, we stand guilty and cannot save ourselves.

Christ saves sinners.
Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became truly man, lived righteously, died in the place of sinners, and rose bodily from the grave.

We must repent and believe.
God calls all people to turn from sin and trust in Christ alone. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

Christ gives new life.
Those who belong to Christ are forgiven, adopted, changed, and gathered into His church to worship, grow, serve, and persevere.

God’s Word is our final authority
We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are breathed out by God, trustworthy in all they affirm, and sufficient for faith and life.
God is sovereign in salvation
We believe that sinners are saved by grace alone through faith alone because of Christ alone. Salvation is the work of God from beginning to end.
Christ is the only mediator
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, the only Saviour of sinners, who lived righteously, died substitutionally, rose bodily, and reigns presently.
The church is a regenerate people
The local church is to be made up of those who credibly profess faith in Christ and walk together under His Word.
Believer’s baptism matters
We believe baptism is for those who personally repent and believe the gospel, and that the ordinances belong to Christ’s gathered church.
Holiness is the Christian path
Those whom God saves He also sanctifies. The Christian life is one of repentance, obedience, prayer, perseverance, and joyful devotion to Christ.
